Madonna Plants A Tree At New Academy

Madonna is currently in Malawi for the groundbreaking of her new Academy for Girls school. We’ve been following her efforts to bring a school to the Southern African country ever since she announced the ambitious plans back in May of last year. Today, the 51-year-old planted a Moringa tree, also known as the “miracle tree” for its cure of many diseases.

Leonardo DiCaprio

One of Hollywood's most outspoken celebrities when it comes to environmental issues. In 2007, he encouraged other celebrities to arrive at the Oscars in hybrid vehicles. In 2008 he released the documentary, 'The 11th Hour'. This film, produced and narrated by DiCaprio, is about the global warming of our planet.

Sheryl Crow

From throwing her own eco-friendly baby shower to running her tour buses on biodiesel fuel, musician Sheryl Crow has made her passion for the environment as much of a priority as she's made her songwriting. That's why the U.S. Green Building Council enlisted her as the opening act for the 2009 Greenbuild Conference, which runs November 11-13 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Norton's nonprofit,BP Solar Neighbors, helps other celebrities become involved in environmental issues. Everytime a celebrity purchases a BP Solar electric system, BP donates a similar system to a low-income family in South Central Los Angeles.

Brad Pitt

To help encourage environmentally-friendly building, Brad Pitt, along with Global Green, announced a sustainable design architectural competition for the areas of New Orleans devastated by Hurricane Katrina. It drew 3000 registrants from all over the world, six finalists were chosen. Daryl Hannah

Who made a big "Splash" in the 1984 film co-starring Tom Hanks, is also making waves in the environmental movement. Hannah's current project is DH Love Life, a Web site and weekly blog dedicated to promoting tips and awareness about energy and environmental awareness. In 2004 and 2006, Hannah won several environmental awards, including the "Environmental Activism Award." Ms. Hannah has been using biodiesel for five years to fuel her 1983 Chevy El Camino.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus

Longtime environmentalist also remains committed to living eco-friendly. Known for her dynamic role on the hit television show "Seinfseld," playing the quirky character Elaine Benes, Louis-Dreyfus has been forging her way into our living rooms since 1982, where she began her comedic career as a cast member of "Saturday Night Live." With her husband of 20 years, Louis-Dreyfus commissioned a "greenie" architect to completely restore their home with a retractable solar-powered roof, and various other advanced energy saving features.

Chef Emeril Lagasse

Though his new show on Planet Green won't be airing until next month, popular Chef Emeril Lagasse is already making an impression on those looking to become more eco-friendly in the kitchen. For an upcoming episode, Legasse met with three members of Friends of Oak Grove, Inc. (FOOGI) a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the health and betterment of the community.
